Weekend Goodies

All four of us are still laid up nursing horrid colds and the flu. Today I lost my voice, which for me at least, is a pretty big problem. Despite all of that, I managed to have a pretty good weekend. I was able to get out and see some friends Saturday night (which admidittedly, wasn't the best choice for a speedy recovery) and then hunkered down on Sunday to make this bag for my sister-in-law. Happy Birthday, Erica!

I also brought home a bunch of fabric and leather samples Saturday night (er, Sunday morning) from friends who thought I might be able to use them. I'm thinking of using the leather for handbag bottoms and handles. It will be interesting to see if my machine can handle it.

Check out that huge, fantastic role of red canvas! Thanks Sarah and Edit!

Toasty Warm

We're supposed to be getting yet another freezing rain storm this evening, but I couldn't feel warmer at the moment now that I have received these fantastic warmers from the lovely Alix at treehouse28. I love how soft and comfortable these are. The fit is great and they are warm enough that I've been going around the house in t-shirts since I got them in the mail late this week.

This second pair was ordered for a friend of mine. I can't wait to give them to her. I know she's going to love them.

If you haven't run across Alix's shop on Etsy yet, you should really check it out. In addition to the warmers, she makes fantastic tops (mostly for layering), neck, head, and arm warmers, and a couple of really amazing dresses and skirts. The clothing is all custom made to your measurements. Thanks again, Alix! You are a truly wonderful lady!

I'm going to try to get quite a bit of sewing in this weekend. Being frozen in tomorrow will probably help me from getting too distracted. I have couple of birthdays coming up that I need to sew for, a few custom orders to take care of, a gift for a new friend that I need to mail out. And a new tote idea that I want to try out. It had been on the back burner for a while, but after seeing Sally's new tote I'm all inspired to get working on it. Although mine will be a bit smaller and have a whole lot less pockets. I'm not that ambitious. Love that new fabric, Sally!

For all of you here in Columbus, get the driveway salt out. The groundhog may have seen his shadow weeks ago, but the storm clouds are ignoring him.

Snow!

Finally, we got some real snow to go with our cold weather. We also got some freezing rain and sleet. But the snow was nice. A snow emergency closed downtown, my office closed at 1pm, and I got to go home and play with the kids outside.

Luckily, Kevin was able to do a lot of wood chopping yesterday. I think this will be enough to keep us toasty warm for a while.

It's Cold

It's really cold around here. Our roof still hasn't been fixed since the hail storm in October. Most of it is still covered in paper, not slate. I'm not kidding. Paper. On our roof. So, no surprise, we've had a hard time heating the house recently since the cold snap started. In fact, it's been so cold that last Thursday, our dining room table cracked in half. Completely in half. Bring on Spring!

Sadie Style

I never wanted to be the kind of parent who pushed their kids into liking the same kind of things that I like. But I have to admit that I secretly hope that one of them will be interested in drawing. So far, no luck (although Quinn might end up surprising me). So, I'm a bit envious over my girlfriend's daughter, Sadie. She's only a bit older than Xander and already has this really cool style that's all her own. Okay, so mostly it's doodling. But it's really cool doodling. So cool that I've suggested that my friend print Sadie's stuff on t-shirts because I would totally buy one. So, she did, and I did. And here it is. It's hard to tell the detail from this photo. But Sadie's stuff is really intricate. I guess it's not surprising that Sadie is good at this, after all her father, Alan, is amazing. You can see his stuff here. And you can check out Sadie's online store here.
